A FORMER Lakers pupil has qualified for the national semi-finals of the WorldSkills UK Fitness Trainer Competition.

The competition aims to unearth the best young personal trainers in the business.

Grant Morris left the Coleford-based school in 2013 for Hartpury College to study Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

After completing the initial diploma, Grant moved on to the Advanced Diploma in Fitness, where he is now a second year student. Grant was put forward for the regional round of the WorldSkills UK Fitness Trainer Competition in Loughborough by his Hartpury lecturer, Steve Adams.

The 19-year-old finished second overall and first male in the personal trainer category. He will now head to the national semi-finals in July when he also finishes his college course.
