YOU recently carried a story about my daughter, who, with the rest of the family, took part in Oxfam's challenge to live on less than £1 a day for a week. The point of this challenge is to raise money for people living in extreme poverty.
Even though you didn't include a link to enable people to donate, one of your readers, someone completely unknown to us, took the trouble to track down my daughter in order to make a donation. That reader was Sid Phelps, who recently stood as the Green Party candidate for Cinderford. What a pity the people of Cinderford didn't elect him! It's rare to find someone who lives by his principles to this extent, and when we find them, we should make every effort to help them get into positions where they can have greater influence. We constantly hear stories of corruption in high places – by contrast. Sid Phelps would seem to be the personification of integrity, somebody who obviously believes in putting his money where his mouth is. I'll definitely be voting Green next time.
