SCHOOLS in Chepstow, Pillowell and English Bicknor celebrated what would have been well-loved author Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday last week.

Nicola Dutton at Chepstow School said: “Roald Dahl Day is celebrated worldwide to remember one of the greatest children’s authors of all time. Chepstow School played host to numerous characters from the timeless classics. We had Oompa Loompas, Matilda, Sophie and Willy Wonka to name just a few. Lessons for Year Seven were focused around the works of Roald Dahl and, in English lessons, pupils created dream jars to add to The BFG’s collection.”

Hayley Alliston, at English Bicknor Primary School, said: “Year One and reception children have been learning about the fantastic characters Roald Dahl wrote about in his stories. All of the children came as their favourite character last Friday, and Miss Grannell, the class teacher, became the BFG for the day. To end the two-week project, pupils made and ate Snozzcumbers and wrote their own special dream and put it into a dream jar.”

Mrs Bees, aka Miss Trenchball, at Pillowell Primary said: “Our celebration of Roald Dahl’s books culminated in a character day.”
