DRYBROOK Rugby Club was the setting for a day of celebrations for Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday last Saturday (June 3).

The event was organised by the rugby club’s youth team led by committee member John Hek and all proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

John told the Review: “There was so much going on. We had a barbecue run by Lydbrook British Legion, a beer tent – where the Pimms with fresh strawberries proved very popular, and teas and coffees on offer.

“Lydney Lindy Hoppers gave a display and we had a local morris dancing team here too. There was loads for children to do with bouncy castles and slides. We had welly wanging and Forest of Dean Brass Band played.

“We aren’t sure yet how much we raised, but hundreds of people came along and the weather was great for the event – it was a real success.”
