A FOREST school has reported its best-ever GCSE results while there have been impressive performances at others on both sides of the Wye.
Wyedean School set a new benchmark for GCSE with 65 per cent of pupils getting at least five GCSEs at A* to C and maths and English results were among the best ever at 91 per cent and 72 per cent respectively.
At Forest High in Cinderford the number of pupils passing English and maths at A* to C almost doubled with 72.4 per cent getting at least a C in maths and significant improvements in other subjects including history, additional science and art.
More than 10 per cent of teenagers at the Dean Academy in Lydney achieved five or more A* or A grades with Rebecca Clarke gaining 10 A* and an A.
Students at Dene Magna in Mitcheldean achieved well above the national average despite being significantly below the benchmark when they joined in Year Seven.
More than 75 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C and 20 students achieved five or more A* or A.
Newent School celebrated its fourth successive year of strong improvement and the results rank among its best-ever.
The proportion achieving five A* to C was 71 per cent and 26 students gained at least five A* or A grades.
Monmouthshire was the best performing area in Wales across a number of indicators.

At John Kyrle High in Ross 74 per cent gained top grades in English and 73 per cent in maths.
The 63 per cent of students gaining at least five GCSEs at A* or A, including English and maths, is significantly better than national and local averages.
