A HEARTFELT plea for young blood to step forward to get involved with the work of the Broadwell Memorial Hall committee has been made by one of its members.

"There are only four of us left now and we are all over 70," said Alf Maddley, 71. "Of course over the years some have resigned or moved away and others have died," he said.

But the real disappointment was that a meeting he had called last week drew only six people – yet the hall was still a vital part of the community and was there for a variety of uses.

Today it is used for ballet classes, Tai Chi and line-dancing. Built in 1923, it has served generations of local people who hold it in great respect.

"We badly need new blood to join the trustees, get interested and help run things," said Alf, whose fellow trustees are 72, 78 and 80.

"I know the meeting was on Armistice evening but I was very disappointed by how few turned up.

"I had put notices all over the place to tell people that the meeting was being held and we wanted to hear from people what they wanted to do with the hall. It is hard to believe that nobody is interested.

"Perhaps when they read this they will give me a call. We would be very glad of more assistance."
