A COOKERY competition to come up with hearty recipes for 1 Rifles is being organised for the Wyedean School Festival on June 18.

The Mission to feed a Hungry Hero competition is looking for students to come up with a two course meal fit for a rifleman.

Rachel Thomas of the Friends of Wyedean School Association (FOWSA) says: "One recipe must be a main course, the second you can choose a starter or dessert. You must include at least one locally sourced ingredient in each course.

"Winners will help the 1 Rifles master-chef cook the chosen recipes for the soldiers on their return home from Afghanistan in November and sit down with them for dinner.

"Winning recipes will be included in the Swift and Bold Recipe File which be launched at the Forest Showcase on Sunday October 2. Runners up will receive a student recipe file from The Schools Food Trust. All entrants will receive a Swift and Bold wristband.

Winners and runners up from each age group will be chosen by a 1 Rifles Master-Chef and announced at the Wyedean School Festival.

To kick off the competition Rifles Master Chef Sgt Mick Chester gave a talk to Wyedean pupils about their Afganistan mission, their food ration packs, what they eat, and encouraged them to enter the competition.

•Entries for the competition should be in by next Tuesday (June 14) in time for the festival on June 18 so you need to get your skates on. Entries can be sent to Wyedean direct or via a downloadable form on the school website and is open to year 6 children and above.
