PLEASE could I urge your readers, young and old, to keep an eye out for the welfare of animals they come across, especially out and about at tourist attractions such as farm parks.
If anything is amiss, like dirty stagnant drinking water, filthy living conditions, no adequate bedding, frightened cowering animals, decaying corpses and injured animals, do not just feel sad or disgusted and walk away.
Captive animals have to endure with no choice. You may be their only voice. Speak up. Do something. You may be fobbed off by the person in charge as I have been, but is that surprising? How do you think that animal ended up like that in the first place?
Phone the RESCP, RSPB and local vet for advice on where to go, who to contact. Ask a reputable local expert. The National Birds of Prey Centre at Newent advised me and Mrs Parry-Jones was brilliant, proactive and very focused on bird welfare.
Your local council too, they inspect premises and issue the licences. The Forest Council in Coleford are very helpful and informative and investigate complaints.
That animal you saw is still there, for all its lifetime probably. You can change things. Please do something. – Concerned, Mitcheldean.
