LYDNEY boxer Chris Higgs has called in local fitness expert and trainer Wayne Nyland for help in advance of his next professional fight on March 5.
Higgs and Nyland have known each other since Higgs won his first fight as a schoolboy.
"Having someone so high-profile has Chris living locally it is a little strange we have not trained together before," said Nyland.
"However, once we put our heads together it all fell into place quite easily.
"Chris wanted to improve his power and explosive attitude, and training with kettlebells and leather medicine balls brings it back to old school-type training.
"Already after our short time together we have noticed a huge improvement in both these disciplines. What I am offering Chris is something a little different, based more on a military-style fitness. Most of my methods come from my time served in the forces.
"Chris has amazing stamina, power and willingness and desire to succeed. It was never in doubt about helping Chris reach his dream. Getting Chris ready for Swindon in March is a priority."
Higgs said: "Wayne said to me that he had some tried and tested old strength circuits which he wanted to show me so I thought I would give it a go as I wanted to get more power.
"The first session was one of the hardest I have ever had. Wayne's encouragement and participation helped me through it and he managed to get another gear out of me. Hopefully on March 5 it will shine and come back with a bang."
Higgs' professional record stands at seven wins from seven fights.
