CHEPSTOW'S thriving boat club says a new sea wall planned for a stretch of Wye riverbank will block access to moorings and stop them being able to pull boats ashore.
"Members are very angry that none of the recommendations we made when they called for public comments on the plan appear to have been taken notice of," said boat club harbourmaster Robert Watkins.
He said the final plans approved by Monmouthshire County Council last week allowed no areas for retrieving small craft and it would be very hard to crane-lift larger vessels.
As well as this the work would seal off The Back, an ancient right of way accessing the river since the 16th century.
"I think they're trying to bulldoze the work through without taking notice of what others want," said Mr Watkins.
However he was pleased that the town slipway, which the boat club had agreed to look after for the town council, would be saved – it would be sealed by flood gates.
"A lot of people in the town think the wall is not right, it's not just the boat club," he said.
He said there were now some 25 members in the club and between 15 and 20 boats moored at the riverside.
"We have done a huge amount to clean up the waterfront and now it's a credit to the town. The town council has also set aside some money for us to maintain the slipway."
The design of the flood defence wall, commissioned by the Environment Agency, was approved last week but no date has yet been set for starting the work.
Mr Watkins and his members are seeking the support of MP Huw Edwards on the issue and were holding a meeting with him on July 1.
