COLEFORD school pupils found out about British wildlife when a local housing association and an ecology consultancy visited to talk to them about their work.
Angharad Hodge and Veronica Parker from Two Rivers Housing and Graham Davison and Fern Fellowes-Day from Focus Ecology spent the morning at Ellwood Primary School. They taught each class about the creatures found in the British countryside, and the work they do to minimise impact on wildlife when new homes are built.
The children, aged between four and 11 years, found out about a range of creatures including slow worms, bats, hedgehogs, dormice, frogs and newts as well as learning how ecologists discover if these animals are present in a development area.
The school was also given a bird, bat and bee box by Focus Ecology to encourage wildlife to its own garden.
