YOUNGSTERS from the Savoy Youth Theatre joined professionals from Spontaneous Productions for the annual panto in Monmouth.
Large audiences at the Savoy Theatre enjoyed Jack and the Beanstalk – a traditional panto with plenty of slapstick, audience participation and innuendo.
But the performances gave no hint that the youth theatre is under threat with an “emergency meeting” planned for this Sunday (January 10).
It is hoped the Monmouth public and other supporters of the youth theatre will be able to offer help that will stave off closure in February.
A leaflet calling for help was inserted in the programme for the panto.
It stated: “Sadly the theatre group is facing closure in February.
“Savoy Youth Theatre is much more than a weekly group for these children – it’s a second home, a place where they’re unconditionally accepted and nurtured to reach their full potential.”
The group is looking for a premises to rent, sponsorship of a child or equipment, ideas and support or volunteers to contact local businesses to seek their backing.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Singleton Court Business Park at Wonastow Road at 3pm.
