FOREST of Dean district councillors are expected to give the go-ahead for a day hospice to be built at Coleford when they meet this Thursday.

Though the site is outside the development area, councillors have been told there is widespread support for the project.

Since the application was discussed, the council has received 300 letters in support together with a petition signed by 600 people.

The hospice would be built on a site near The Coombs Nursing Home.

So far around £400,000 has been raised by supporters and fund-raising will continue indefinitely.

The hospice will be called Great Oaks.
