THIS lovely old photograph is of the late Mr Stanley Miles, a former ironmonger who ran a business at Bream.
It was sent to us by Mr Hylton Miles of Cinderford, who says the picture was taken in the 1920s and the motor bike was a Quadrant.
He lists the following manufacturers of motor cycles prior to the 1939 war. Can anyone add to them, he asks?
Mr Miles offers: Norton, AJS, Royal Enfield, BSA, Velocette, Rudge Whitworth, James, Francis Barnett, Watney (made by Watts of Lydney), Quadrant, Levis, Panther, Scott, Red Indian, Sunbeam, Triumph, Cotton, Matchless, Douglas, Baughan (Stroud), Raleigh, Harley Davidson, BMW, Ariel and, finally, a Dunalt – the bike, he recalls, used by Pc Hull in Bream in the 1920s.
In anyone can name any others please drop us a line.
