TWO young people deserved special praise for their contribution to the Great Oaks Hospice fete on Sunday afternoon (August 11).

Jake Norris, of Lydney, presented the hospice with a cheque for £200 and singer Tyler Evans, who is also from Lydney, stepped in at the last moment when another act had to withdraw.

A spokesperson for the hospice said that former Totally Talented winner Tyler “wowed everyone with her beautiful singing voice.”

Organisers had their fingers crossed that the weather would hold out after the fete was postponed earlier in the summer.

In the event, it was sunshine and blue skies until almost the moment that Radio Gloucestershire’s Pete Wilson officially opened the event.

Pete, of Westbury, said: “We all know people who have been affected by cancer and this place does a wonderful job.”

Torrential rain and thunder did not put off some hardy stall holders and visitors who stayed outside but the hospice corridors were crammed with the large number of people who had turned out to support the event.
