A COLEFORD mum has set-up her own mobile footcare clinic after leaving her job fearing she would be sacked for attending hospital appointments.

Georgie Parnell suffers from Ulcerative Colitis, a long-term (chronic) condition where the colon and bowel becomes inflamed. The 32-year-old has suffered from the illness for the last 10 years while working for the NHS Trust as a community specialist podiatrist.

Her illness has deteriorated over the years leading to two episodes in intensive care and eight separate operations. In 2009 she had her colon removed.

She said: "I returned to work between the operations as much as possible. Since 2009 my health has continued to improve but I've still required hospital admissions at times. I defied the odds and managed to conceive my son in 2012.

"Last month I developed an infection relating to my condition and declined medical advice to take time off work but had to when my heath worsened. I decided to resign when I started worrying I would lose my job through dismissal and I have since set up my own mobile podiatry (foot care) clinic called Total Foot Care.

"I have always wanted to develop my own private podiatry business, there is nothing more rewarding than helping people feel better."
