A FOREST primary school which has been in special measures since May last year is showing significant improvement, according to an Ofsted report.

St Anthony’s School in Cinderford was particularly praised by inspectors for its strong SATs results and quality of teaching and learning.

The report highlighted that “leaders and managers are taking effective action towards the removal of special measures. Pupils remain positive about their school, are engaged in their lessons and are enjoying their lessons.”

Since the report in May, the school has appointed new interim headteacher, Mandy Lloyd, and interim deputy headteacher, Christopher Powell.

Mrs Lloyd said: “My main aim while here, together with SGS Academy Trust, is to help get the school out of special measures to a point where there is stability and consistency of approach across the school.

“I have been working with the Trust, staff and governors since July and we have overcome many issues already as we prepared for the children to start back in September. I look forward to continuing this work with Mr Powell as we continue the improvement journey together.”
