A FOX had a lucky escape after being rescued by the RSPCA after getting its leg caught in wire fencing.

The male fox was discovered in a distressed state in woods close to Lydney on the road heading to Bream by a concerned member of the public who noticed that he was unable to escape after getting his leg trapped in fencing.

RSPCA Inspector Suzanne Smith, who attended the incident, said: “The fox had got himself trapped in the metal fencing and was struggling to get out. We are not sure how long he had been there, but he was clearly suffering and must have used up a lot of energy trying to get out.

“Sadly, he had a deep wound on the leg that had been trapped but once he was successfully removed from the fence he was able to use the leg.”

The injured fox has since been taken to Vale Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in Tewkesbury, where he is now recovering from his injuries.

The charity is urging members of the public to take extra care when installing or repairing fencing and encourages regular checks for any wild animals that may have become trapped.
