IN response to Emma Posey's letter "A helmet or not?" may I suggest priority be given to ensuring your scooter has operating running lights back and front as well as a visibility flag.

The best protection on the road is being easily visible. Locally, I have noted people who ride their scooters on Lords Hill/Coalway road really dice with death through lack of visibility.

Lack of visibility is particularly inconsiderate to other road users. Good visibility is more important than a helmet.
