PARENTS of pupils at Ruardean School and college students joined forces to build a new storage shed for the School's PE and play equipment.

Ruardean Primary School's old PE shed was knocked down when a new building was constructed and the school has been struggling to find a home for its PE and play equipment ever since.

The School's Parent Teacher Association and Gloucestershire College's construction students are taking on the challenge and working together on the building project.

It all kicked off at the end of March with eight students from the Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork at the college's Mitcheldean Campus visiting the school and marking out the foundations.

Over the next few weeks parent volunteers will visit the site to dig out the foundations and concrete the footings and base, while the students will visit the site one day a week and put their brickwork skills into practice.

Once the student bricklayers have completed their job it is hoped that the College's carpentry students will move on-site to add the roof and doors.

Steve Lewis, college curriculum leader for brickwork, said: "This is a great opportunity for our students to get experience of working on a project outside of the college workshops."

Jane Evans, head teacher at Ruardean Primary School, added: "We are very grateful to both parents and students who are giving up their time and providing their skills free of charge to help create something for our school community."
