FOREST woman Julie-Ann Amos, who lost her father to cancer and suffers from chronic osteoarthritis, plans to trek the Inca Trail in Peru in aid of Penny Brohn Cancer Care.
She is expecting to have double knee replacements in a few years, and says she is taking her last shot at a major physical challenge.
Penny Brohn Cancer Care has just launched this exclusive fundraising expedition to the lost city of the Incas – Machu Picchu – and is calling for more volunteers to join the trek in October 2011.
The Inca Trail, rated by many as one of the world's top treks, covers three high mountain passes, including one at 4,200 metres, and combines stunning mountain scenery, lush cloud forest, subtropical jungle and the legendary Inca paving stones, ruins and tunnels.
Penny Brohn Cancer Care hopes to raise £90,000 and is looking for 30 people to take on the challenge for their 30 th anniversary year. The national cancer charity, based at Pill outside Bristol, celebrated its 30 th birthday in October 2010
Julie-Ann, who is 48 and lives in Whitecroft, said: "Sadly it was too late for my father to be able to access the fantastic services and support of Penny Brohn Cancer Care by the time he came out of hospital. I want to raise money for the charity because I am well aware just how much people need help and support when they or their loved ones are going through this difficult illness."
