PAST students of the old Chepstow Grammar School at Larkfield are planning a commemorative 'Book of Remembrance' to record the war service of old boys and girls who lost their lives in the Second World War.

They hope to hear from families, friends or relatives, from former pupils or anyone having association with the school who could contribute to the book or loan photographs or records of any kind.

On behalf of Larkfield Old Students, Mr D.J. Williams, of Beachley, said: "The records of the war service of the old boys and girls need no preface other than to say that Larkfield, like all other schools, gave of its best.

"Its losses were remarkably high for a small country grammar school, the proportion being appreciably heightened by those lost on flying duties with the RAF. This is hardly surprising given that they were bright boys, a number of whom were members of the elite 'Pathfinders Force' and some were decorated with highest honours."

Mr Williams said there had been many reasons for the delay in producing the Book of Remembrance and Record of Service, the chief one being difficulty in obtaining the necessary information.

"It is obvious that the book will not be correct in all details, but every care will be taken to ensure it is as complete as possible from the information obtainable," he said.

Details would be especially appreciated about those listed here who were at Larkfield during the early years before the outbreak of the war or during the war years.
