THE pupils of Primrose Hill School, Lydney, are turning into avid readers since the opening last week of their new library.

"We always wanted a proper library at the school and when an empty classroom turned up we jumped at the chance," said head teacher Geoff Roser.

"We have bought some new software so that children can take books out and back just like a real library and with redecoration it really looks the part."

The school launched the new library with a week of events including a professional storyteller on Monday and to round things up a book-character dressing up day on Friday.

The school also held an evening workshop for parents on the subject of reading.

Mr Roser said the aim was to encourage everyone to read, at all levels of ability. In addition it had four computers for children to access the internet.
