A BRAZEN thief walked up to a householder’s front door and stole two sets of Christmas lights.

Peter Bristow found the lights missing when he woke at 6am on Tuesday, December 5, at his Broadoak home, and has issued a CCTV image of the thief in the hope that someone can identify him.

“He was a really cheeky so and so,” said Mr Bristow, who lives next door to the Glevum Conservatory business in Riverside Lane.

“This bloke walked up the drive between the car and the hedge to avoid the security light, then found the plugs to the Christmas lights, unplugged them and wound up the leads before pulling the lights out of the ground and making off.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw it on CCTV, what a cheek. The lights were in the ground either side of the front door and are pretty unusual, in that they were a spiral shape, one blue and one white, with a star on top, and were about a foot to a foot and a half high.

“According to the CCTV, the thief struck at 9.36pm on Monday evening, so I think I just missed him. If anyone has any idea who it is, they should call police on 101 quoting case number 420 05-12-17.

“My friend says he’s seen someone around here matching the image, so he’s probably local.

“I know its only petty thieving, as the lights were about £30 each when I bought them a few years ago, but I want to alert other people in the community to be on their guard.

“There’s a few older people around here and I wouldn’t want them to be targeted like this.”
