A CHARITY smallholding in the Forest has received a grant from a local bridge-building company.

The £500 from Mabey Bridge – which has a manufacturing facility in Lydney – will allow the Orchard Trust to buy livestock and fencing for its smallholding.

The Trust supports adults with learning disabilities to live fulfilling lives and the money will enable the development of its smallholding in Lydbrook.

The donation was recommended by Mabey Bridge's employee council which assesses local community projects for support by the company.

Mabey Bridge works manager Dave Morgan said: "Mabey Bridge appreciates the important work that the Orchard Trust does in the Forest of Dean area."

"The smallholding is a very positive asset for the Trust and we are pleased to be able to help with its development and upkeep."

Orchard Trust chief executive Gareth Jones said: "This donation will make a real difference in the process of purchasing fencing and livestock which will give our service users a chance to further develop their animal husbandry skills.

"We thank Mabey Bridge for their kind donation and look forward to working with them in the future."
