THE contribution of Britain’s longest serving councillor has been remembered with a bench in his hometown.

Cinderford’s Lloyd Wilce, who died in February aged 89, served as a Labour councillor for 68 years for town and district, first taking office in 1949, aged 20.

He was town mayor twice and campaigned for a pool and running track, as well as the bronze statue of a miner in the Triangle.

The inscription on the bench in the Belle Vue Centre garden reads: “In memory of Councillor Lloyd Stephen Wilce, 5th February 1929-20th February 2018. An amazing 68 years services to Cinderford and its parishioners, the longest serving councillor in the country.”
