THE woman who was instrumental in attracting lottery cash to rescue her village hall says the now smartly-refurbished building may close if a new management team is not found.
"It's a serious situation that will leave the hall in a crisis," says Mrs Verlie Eagles. who worked tirelessly on an application which attracted £20,000 lottery cash for the Alvington Memorial Hall project.
She said all the present members of the hall's management committee had forecast they would be resigning for various reasons at the forthcoming May 22 annual meeting.
"It would be almost criminal to allow the hall to close, which is sadly what will happen if a new management committee is not established at the AGM."
She appealed to the whole parish to attend the 8pm meeting at the village hall, and urged anyone who felt they could serve on a new committee to step forward – help and guidance would be given if they had never undertaken such tasks before.
Mrs Eagles, the present hall committee treasurer and secretary, said she had taken on many of the running responsibilities since the refurbishment and now it was time for others to help.
The hall was now very sound structurally and should remain so for many years to come. A remaining task was tiling the roof, which was strengthened to take the weight.
It was becoming a popular dance club venue and there was a chance of martial arts classes also being held. And once news had got around of how attractive the interior was now, it was being used for an increasing number of wedding and birthday parties.
