CANOE launch sites at Ross-on-Wye and Kerne Bridge are to undergo makeovers starting in the next few weeks.

The Wye Valley AONB-led alterations will take three to four weeks to complete and the project will create new modern facilities at the Herefordshire Council-owned sites.

The innovative designs will also provide enhanced access for people with disabilities for the first time on the River Wye, says the AONB.

A new canoeists' guide book produced as part of the same project is now available free to those hiring canoes through local hire companies.

A code of conduct leaflet has also been produced and new information boards will be installed at the canoe launch sites after reconstruction.

The project has been funded by the Advantage West Midlands Natural Assets fund, the Environment Agency and through the Wye Valley AONB Sustainable Development Fund and is being developed in partnership with Herefordshire Council.

Public open space and rights of way at Ross-on-Wye and the car park and picnic site at Kerne Bridge will all remain open for the duration of the works, though the launches will be closed until completed.
