POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault with a “truncheon” outside a village shop which left a 40-year-old man with serious injuries.

The attack happened in Yorkley around 5.30pm on Thursday, October 4, when he became involved in an argument with two younger men outside Select and Save in Bailey Hill.

A Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman said a fourth man then arrived in a black car and assaulted the 40-year-old with a weapon described as a "truncheon".

The injured man sought medical help the following day and received treatment for injuries to his head, back and groin area, and the incident was reported to Gloucestershire Constabulary on Monday, October 8.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently on bail pending further inquiries.
