IT was high fives all round when Dan Morgan presented a £1,220 cheque to charity after running five marathons in five days.

The marathon man raised the cash from running a total of 135 miles to and from work, striding out from his Chepstow home to Langstone Business Park in the morning before returning to the Danes estate via Mathern after a day at the office.

He raised the cash for young families charity HomeStart Monmouthshire and presented the cash to charity manager Pam Lloyd at their Bridges HQ in Monmouth.

The fitness fan also raised £800 for the charity last year after running four half marathon races in four weekends in between playing football for Lydney Town FC.

He said of his latest challenge: “It was really tough. I think I massively underestimated it and I didn’t do a massive amount of training so I was relying on my base fitness to get me through. I had lots of support from friends and family. A few businesses got on board. One of my mates owns Castles Brewery, they got on board and pledged a substantial amount, and Dan Hines helped me out with 1Life1Time t-shirts, so a big thanks to them.”

He had been planning to do the runs to and from his Henry Howard Finance workplace with another runner, but he had to pull out with an injury.

HomeStart’s Pam Lloyd said: “We have to raise about £7,000 ourselves apart from grants and it is just brilliant when someone comes along and raises money.

“It goes towards keeping the service afloat because otherwise we wouldn’t be able to provide support to families in Monmouthshire.

“So we can continue to help families that are struggling in some way where there is a child under five.”

Dan explained: “I was googling local charities because I wanted to do something local, because with the bigger charities you’re not really sure how much goes to the people that need it.

“So I wanted to do something that ties in with families and young kids and HomeStart was one of the ones that popped up.”

Mark Crook, group chief executive officer of Henry Howard Finance, added: “We’re pleased to donate £135 to the cause, and I’d like to congratulate Dan for his efforts in raising money for HomeStart.”
