THE cheeky band of Wyedean brickies who are heading for the charts with their own brand of pop hilarity planned to have a new 'star' in their upcoming video – the Mayor of Coleford, Mrs Gill Camp.

Councillor Camp apparently enjoyed the performance Cheek put on during the Musical Mayhem event at the Orepool Inn recently.

She met them afterwards and asked for autographs – and as a result agreed to take part in the filming for the release of Cheek's first single, Builders Bum.

But the band was left without Councillor Camp's cooperation when she persuaded herself to back down.

"I love a bit of fun. But in the end I thought about it and decided it might offend some," she said. "I think they are great and they don't do anything naughty, really. And they are so funny."

Band member Ian Luther said he though it was shame. "I know she decided it wasn't appropriate, but it is just a fun video. I'm sure if the council could had seen it everything would have been all right. It is just family fun."

The band, which has performed in front of a live TV audience in London after being discovered at a local gig, is not finding all the attention hard to take.

They have been on several radio interviews as well as being sought out to perform at various functions.

The filming for the video took place on a Bristol building site and in the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The group hopes Builders Bum will be released in early November.

And what did Councillor Camp think after having to demolish their relationship?

"I'm bound to see them, again," she said. "I think they are a great bunch of chaps. They have invited me to one of their shows."
