A GETAWAY car was waiting in the wings on Monday night as three men attempted to break-in to Bendalls Metal Recycling, according to Lucy Bendall.

The daughter of the owner of the family-run business said a police helicopter was circling the site on Harbour Road in Lydney as police hunted for three men who allegedly had a getaway vehicle waiting on the A48 bypass.

At midnight, police arrested a man on the A48 and 45 minutes later the three men at an address in Lydney on suspicion of burglary.

Miss Bendall said: "We received a call from our security team just before 11pm to say there were three men on site, so we called the police straightaway and drove down to see what was going on. We couldn't see anybody and so waited down at the railway line while police were searching the area.

"We have been told the burglars didn't get away with anything because they had been disturbed by our CCTV. The police arrested the men and seized the car from the driver who we have been told was waiting on the A48 bypass. This time of year is always a worry and my dad is filled with anxiety – I think we were targeted because we are quite isolated. The police are dealing with the incident now."

A resident who lives on Station Street, who didn't wish to be named, contacted the Review about Monday night's events and said: "The helicopter was circling Lakeside and Oakdale and I believe there were armed responses and dogs present. Police were searching gardens in Lakeside for the men who some say broke in to Bendalls."
