RIVERSIDE walkers could soon be walking along a mile-long collection of trees from around the world.

Ross-on-Wye Town Council has backed a plan for a ‘linear arboretum’ from Wilton Bridge through Long Acre and around the Rope Walk.

The idea behind the scheme is that every tree will be different, providing a promenade of various shapes, sizes, leaves, flowers and bark.

Two rows of cherry trees are also set to be planted along the pathway from Wye Street to the canoe launch site.

Council tree warden Rob Taylor has offered a £1,000 donation towards the plan, which the council has agreed to match fund.

Residents, groups, clubs and businesses are also being urged to sponsor a tree from £50.
