THE owner of a hairdressers which was burgled at the weekend says she can’t believe it happened in a village where ’crime is so low’.

Deborah Wakefield spent most of Tuesday clearing up broken glass and smashed up furniture after vandals broke into KCL Salon, in Mitcheldean, between Saturday at 1pm and Tuesday morning.

She said: "In the 11 years we have been trading here, we have never been broken into.

"Crime is so low in Mitcheldean – it’s frightening that this has happened. The burglars broke into the shop by a window and ransacked the salon stealing around £300 in petty cash, several sets of GHD hair straighteners, hair dryers, scissors and hair products.

"The biggest annoyance is the inconvenience of having to rearrange client appointments. I had a full day booked and have had to ring around everybody. All those I have spoken to are shocked that this has happened."

Gloucestershire Police are asking witnesses who saw suspicious activity in the area or who has been offered hairdressing equipment for sale to call 101 quoting incident 63 of Tuesday, March 1.

Deborah added: "The worst thing is not knowing who could do this. Is it somebody I know? Is it a client even? We would like to let people know that it is still very much business as usual."
