THE enthusiastic musicians of Monmouth Band are looking for a keen new musical director.

"As our musical director has recently resigned due to college commitments, we would like to appeal to anyone who feels they would be capable of taking on this job," says a spokesman.

"The main qualification for anyone interested, apart from appropriate musical knowledge, is enthusiasm and the commitment to lead rehearsals at least one evening a week and to conduct the band for their concerts.

"Our standard of playing is not very elevated and we don't enter for contests and have no wish to do so, but we do enjoy our playing very much.

"We have several engagements throughout the year at fetes and local events as well as at Monmouth Festival and Monmouthshire Show, and we meet on Monday and Thursday evenings for rehearsals at the Overmonnow Family Learning Centre in Monmouth.

"We would also welcome any players who would like to join us, particularly in the solo cornet section but in any other section too. We can provide good instruments for use while playing with the band."
