MORE than 40 families have moved into new Two Rivers homes on the Angel Vale estate in Coleford.
Homes in the new mixed development are built in traditional style but with all mod cons. It's a co-operative venture between Bloor Homes and Two Rivers, with 40 Two Rivers not for profit low-cost rental homes mixed into the commercially developed private sector estate.
Two Rivers says it is part of their growth programme, delivering hundreds of new homes to help local communities bridge the growing gap between average wages and house prices.
Sasha Evans, Adam Childs and son Harry are among the families to embark on a new chapter of their lives in the Angel Vale estate.
Little Harry Childs was beaming with delight as he was carried around to see the sights and touch surfaces by his adoring and devoted parents.
At only 18 months Harry has an inquisitive nature, but he needs a bit of extra back up from his parents.
"A spanking new Two Rivers' home will really help the family deal with the extra demands posed by Harry's cerebral palsy," says a Two Rivers spokesman.
The three have been living in rented accommodation in Broadwell but it really wasn't suitable for Harry's needs. So when the Angel Vale opportunity came up they jumped at it.
"The old place was just too small and it really wasn't fit for the little one. The old landlord wasn't really bothered. This place is easy to adapt to meet Harry's needs," said Sasha.
"It's a great location because it's convenient for Adam to get to work, and Harry has two or three medical appointments a week just down the road in Coleford."
Soudley resident and volunteer vice-chair of Two Rivers Jean Birkett, welcomed the new members of the Two Rivers family.
"Two Rivers is about people and supporting the local community. Homes are at the heart of this mission. It's wonderful that we can provide low cost homes to people who really need them. That's what being a not-for-profit community group is all about," she said.
"Seeing the delight on their faces made my day. This is what the job is all about," said one Two Rivers' team member.
