AS part of a national refurbishment project Bream Post Office is to get a major make-over to bring it up to the level of a 'main' branch.

The revamped shop will also have longer opening hours.

Part of the work is creating two screened counter positions, but the project means that Bream Post Office will be closed from Wednesday March 6 at 1pm and will re-open on Friday March 15 at 9am. The next nearest Post Offices are in New Road, Parkend, or within the Co-op in Lydney.

Regional network manager for Wales and West of England Tony Jones said: "We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Bream and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

"This modernisation is part of a three year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6,000 branches (about half the Post Office network) converting to new style branches. This investment makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes."

Customers to the new Bream Post Office will see weekday opening times of 9am to 5.30pm being rolled out for Saturdays too.
