MONMOUTH MP David Davies was among 112 MPs who attended Back British Farming Day which saw the National Farmers’ Union take the countryside to the heart of London, complete with three Massey Ferguson tractors and a host of British produce.

Wearing a specially-designed British wheat lapel pin Mr Davies also signed the NFU’s post-Brexit pledge.

Mr Davies said: “While the decision to leave the EU has undoubtedly brought challenges, I am excited about the many opportunities that now exist for Britain’s farmers.

“Farming is a bedrock of our economy, especially here in Monmouthshire, and its success is crucial to future prosperity.

“The industry alone underpins a food and drink sector worth £6.1bn to the Welsh economy, with the food and farming sector worth £108bn across the UK.

“As well as fully endorsing the message to back British farming, I also wish to state my own complete commitment to maintaining farm support arrangements and tackling the ongoing problem of bovine TB in cattle.”
