A FOREST rugby fan has become the unlikely hero of an advert, as he and his brother fulfil the terms of their mother’s will.
The brothers, Gareth and David Rees, grew up in Swindon. Their mother Olive was originally from the Welsh Valleys, and the story of her instructions to her sons to spend the legacy she left them on following Wales in the Six Nation and on buying beer was picked up by sponsors Guinness.
The brothers take their mother’s purse, complete with its Welsh dragon, with them to every game, to hold the kitty, in honour of her memory. The company has now turned their story into an advert called ‘the purse’.
Gareth, who studied in Cheltenham and now lives in the Forest, had to audition with his brother to play themselves in the advert, which took them to Italy and France to recreate scenes from the Six Nations games.
Gareth said in a BBC interview: “My mam would be really chuffed to see this, because it’s not about us two really, it’s about our mam you know and it’s a fitting tribute to her.”
The brothers, and the purse, are currently following home and away games for this year’s Six Nations.
