On Friday, September 6, a friend of ours and her boyfriend were walking our Jack Russell Poppy, a rescue dog, in the Heywood woods in Cinderford. Poppy was on a lead and under close supervision.

Unfortunately they came upon a lady with a dark German Shepherd – the dog broke away from her control in an unprovoked, vicious attack on our dog.

They called for help and rushed Poppy to vet Derry Jones in the Globe Surgery. Derry, realising the seriousness of the wounds, immediately attended her and operated on her lacerated leg and hind quarter, probably saving her life.

Poppy was utterly traumatised and took several days to stop shaking. If she manages to keep her leg she may never regain her confidence.

To the owner of the Alsatian, who beat her dog with a stick after the attack, we hope you never walk your dog again without a muzzle.

If you would like to take responsibility for this and assist with the vet's bills we would be very grateful.
