FOREST power-lifter Nathan Fisher has taken gold in the Scottish Special Power Lifting Championships in Livingstone and is hoping to be selected for the 2011 World Special Olympics.

At the Livingstone competition Nathan lifted at a body weight of 56.7 kilos and lifted a total of 322.5 kilos to finish with a gold in his weight class.

He was third male overall, achieving a personal best squat lift of 120 kilos, 85 kilos in the bench press and 117.5 kilos in the dead lift.

Coach Alan Elliott said: "We have high hopes that Special Power Lifting will be accepted, along with other sports, for the 2012 Olympic Games in London and I have to keep that Nathan has the best possible chance of selection.

"The OOC will officially announce their decision in November 2009 and we are all hoping it will be a positive outcome.

"Our MP Mark Harper has been lobbying on behalf of special athletes and I would like to personally thank him for his efforts in supporting the inclusion of special athletes at the London Olympics.

"Mark is a regular client in the fitness centre which enables us to keep in close contact about developments for 2012.

"The politics involved in the process for the inclusion of special needs athletes are complex, but the IOC should make a final decision by the end of this year.

"We are all keeping our fingers crossed for a decision that will ensure a unique Olympic Games."

Nathan will represent England in the Special Olympic Summer Games in Leicester this July, for the third time.

Alan said: "Success in these games will ensure him of a selection for the World Special Olympics which are to be held in London in 2011 as a forerunner to the 2012 Olympics..
