WORK has started to improve access to Woolaston Methodist Church thanks to local fundraising and a land fill tax grant of £5,000.
Methodist minister for Woolaston, the Revd Heather Upton said: “The church needed to raise £20,000 to upgrade facilities. The boost from the Gloucestershire Environmental Trust’s Land Fill Tax Communities Fund, operated by Cory Environmental adds to other fundraising ventures and initiatives by church members. The church refurbishment includes disabled access, a disabled toilet, baby changing facilities and a new kitchen.
“The much needed refurbishment is timely as the church celebrates 150 years of worship and witness next July. Our regular coffee mornings are a good source of finance and are well supported by the village. We also held a popular Flower Festival, organised by local flower arranging tutor Mrs Alwyn Page.”
“We look forward to opening our doors to many more local residents as the rooms will be available for letting to local groups.”
