A NEW pedestrian crossing has been installed in Littledean by Gloucestershire County Council to address safety concerns.
Littledean Parish Council and local county councillor Richard Leppington contacted the council about putting a zebra crossing in place on the A4151 through the village.
They had raised the issue of motorists travelling too fast through the village and wanted a crossing to improve safety for pedestrians.
The county council’s highways department carried out a safety assessment of the road and agreed a crossing would make the road safer for all users.
The scheme was jointly funded by Cllr Leppington (UKIP, Blakeney and Bream) from his Highways Local allocation, Littledean Parish Council and the county council as part of the council’s Big Community Offer.
Work to install the zebra crossing was completed on last week and cost £42,000.
Cllr Leppington said: “I’ve been working closely with the county and parish council on this project for a while now.
“I’m really glad we’ve been able to put this funding together to get this crossing installed and I’m sure it’ll be well received by residents.”
Cllr Vernon Smith, (Con, Tewkesbury), Cabinet member for highways, said: “This crossing will slow down motorists passing through Littledean and make it safer for pedestrians.”
