THERE were lots to entertain children at this year’s Christmas light switch-on in Newent.
Elsa and Anna from the Disney film Frozen turned on the lights – with the helped of Newent’s own fairy queen Kerri Greenwold – while childhood favourites Noddy and Big Ears arrived appropriately in a red car.
Despite the wet weather people turned out in their droves to watch the celebrations unfold, which this year featured an inaugural parade from the Rec to the Market House in the town centre.
The parade was led by Joseph and Mary on their donkey and included a number of creative floats and walkers.
There was further entertainment from Olaf of Frozen, a stilt walker and a fire entertainer.
During the evening the crowd were entertained by carols, sung wonderfully sung by the Newent Community Choir, and songs from the wonderful Rosita.
Santa met children in the Market Hall after helping to turn the lights on and there were stalls selling a range of goodies from food and drink to artwork around the Market House throughout the evening.
There was also a raffle stall raising money for Newent RFC.
