RESURFACING work on the A48 at Bullo, near Newnham, starts on June 23.
Work will be carried out during the night to minimise traffic disruption. The road will also remain open at usual at weekends.
Work is expected to finish on Tuesday, June 28.
A signed diversion will in place via Elton Corner, Littledean, Speech House, Parkend and Lydney, however local traffic may know of shorter routes.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "We want to keep traffic disruption to a minimum while we continue our repairs along the A48 in the Forest of Dean. When we resurface the section at Bullo we’ll be working overnight.
"The A48 is an important route for thousands of commuters and businesses, and when the new surface is complete it’s expected to last for more than 20 years."
Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles.
Times of when the road will be closed is to be confirmed by the county council.
