I HAVE lived in Lydney for 88 years apart from college and war service but I witnessed something that made me feel ashamed of my town.

A lady was struggling with her zimmer at the rear of a car obviously having problems. At least eight people walked by and didn't even offer to help.

I know ladies like their independence and she may have said: "I'm OK" but an offer could have been made.

I finally got out of my car parked on a disabled space and hobbled across to the lady who was pleased to accept my offer of help. I lifted her zimmer into the boot.

– Disheartened, Lydney.
