DESPITE a Met Office yellow warning for heavy rain, the 21st annual Coleford Carnival of Transport shone.

But organisers say the forecast had a big impact on both the numbers of visitors and exhibitors for what is one of the town’s biggest events of the year.

Secretary Gareph Boxley said: “It didn’t rain on our parade despite the Met Office forecast.

“I don’t know how they could get it so badly wrong – the rain had finished by 10am and we had sunshine for most of the day.

“Some other events were cancelled because of the forecast but we carried on and I’m really proud of the team.

“We’ve had some fantastic comments about the day on Facebook.

“The forecast definitely had an effect on numbers – if you’re going to drive 50 miles in a soft-top car, what judgement call are you going to make if the Met Office says there is going to be heavy rain?

“There weren’t many bikes, which made it look a bit sparse, but we did have a traction engine and a steam roller.

“The annual carnival brings vehicles of all shapes, sizes and ages from across the Forest and beyond.”
