North Gloucester league division One

Yorkley 2, Redebrook 1

THIS division is set to be a cliff-hanger and the crunch could come in just three weeks when Redbrook have home advantage against Yorkley.

Both team are on equal points and games, and have games in hand on Blakeney who also share second spot with them. English Bicknor have 22 points but they have played two games more.

This clash was a target win for Yorkley.

But they left in late and Redbrook were holding a one goal advantage with 15 minutes to go. Then Yorkley's top scorer, Neil Norris, got in on the act and scored twice – the second a peach – to secure the vital three points.

Yorkley now face the task of winning at Redbrook – and they know it is going to be a tough task.

"They are a good side so it will not be easy, but if we are going to gain promotion it games like this we have to win," said a spokesman.

Yorkley are still smarting after failing to gain promotion last term but the club is going from strength to strenth with a flourishing Reserves team and now even an under 11s set-up.

"We are lucky to have the support of Steve Turley who has sponsored the First Xl kit and the junior team. He is a keen supporter and we appreciate that," said the spokesman.

The team is managed by Mark Hudson who is in charge for his second season and is highly regarded by the players.

Joint top scorers this season are Neil Norris and Steve Howes with seven each. Close behind is centre-half Paul Saunders, the club captain, who has six .

It's early days yet but if Yorkley have their way the league could be won and lost by Christmas...but the dogged determination of Redbrook stands in the way.

Yorkley can be assured of a very warm Wye Valley welcome!
