ANTON Campbell and Margaret Perthen got more than they bargained for when they picked up a cut price pack of broccoli.
On cutting open the plastic wrapping at their kitchen in Lydney, what should pop out but a very much alive gecko.
Even more surprising is that the tiny lizard survived. For a start they're not vegetarian and being heat sealed in plastic and flown to Lydney from Spain can't have been any reptile's idea of fun.
Saved from becoming supper, the gecko was taken to Sundean Veterinary Clinic in Lydney, where head nurse Teresa Horspool reported it had warmed up and is doing well.
"His tail's starting to grow back and he's eating and drinking. He's a happy little chap. He's certainly lucky to be alive but he's probably going to be here for the rest of his natural."
