I AM extremely unappreciative and equally disturbed by the offensive attempt to compare UKIP with the Nazi Party (Review Letters May 10). I was in the Royal Air Force for nine years not the Luftwaffe! Therefore, I was much more appreciative of seeing the RAF Memorial Flight's Lancaster on the front cover of the Review – I remember circa 1984 seeing this aircraft undergoing extensive renovation and then its return to the air while stationed at RAF Abingdon.
It was a timely reminder that 70 years ago on the night of May 16/17 1943, 617 Squadron (Dambusters) led by 24-year-old Wing Commander Guy Gibson played a major part in ensuring the continued freedom of this country with their courageous Lancaster sortie to the Ruhr Valley. Apres Moi Le Deluge.
There is a quote from the historian AJP Taylor, I prefer Winston Churchill – if Britain must choose between Europe and the open sea, she must always choose the open sea.
Re John Ridley, Say no to Severn Turbines in the same Review. Local democracy must ensure that the type of efficient propellers on the Lanc are the only type needed to be seen in the area.
Thank you Lydney and Aylburton.
